Top 5 Movie Trilogies

godfather5. The Godfather Trilogy: What can you really say about The Godfather Part I? The negative reviews are few and far between, and Coppola (along with others) are to be praised. The Godfather Part II was another success and some consider it to be one of the best sequels ever made. Although The Godfather Part III didn’t live up to its predecessors, the trilogy as a whole is an amazing experience. With Part I and Part II both being on AFI’s “100 Greatest American Movies of All Time”, it’s easy to see why this trilogy made our list.

4. The Lord of the Rings: Who could have ever imagined the massive world of Middle Earth coming to life in a live action film? Peter Jackson accepted the challenge and presented us with a beautiful and thrilling adaptation of Tolkien’s beloved works. Although these films are lengthy, your patience is rewarded throughout each film. The cinematography, make up, costumes, and effects bring Tolkien’s world to the big screen.

3. The Dark Knight Trilogy: Christopher Nolan’s masterpiece includes what some would argue to be the best superhero film ever made. With the detailed backstory presented in Batman Begins, the trilogy continued to grow into perfection with the sequel, The Dark Knight. Although the third installment, Dark Knight Rises, was unable to live up to its predecessors, the movie was able to bring satisfying closure to a breathtaking trilogy.

2. Toy Story: The Toy Story trilogy is beloved by both children and adults. The plot, humor, and characters attract a large and diverse audience. With each film we find ourselves falling in love with these toys. Of course ,Tom Hanks and Tim Allen’s performances make this an outstanding animated trilogy.

1. Star Wars (Episodes IV-VI): No movie trilogy has had as much pop culture impact like the original Star Wars trilogy. Each film is independently amazing on its own which is why Star Wars takes #1 on our list. At the same time the trilogy shines as one cohesive and unified set. From outstanding acting to maybe one of the biggest plot twists in movie history, the original Star Wars trilogy will go down as one of the best.
